Український свято, частина друга!
Assuming the online translator I used is correct, the title reads 'Ukrainian Feast, part two' and what a feast it was! We rounded out our Ukrainian cooking extravaganza with holubtsi and poppy seed cake. The holubtsi, which are stuffed cabbage rolls, were prepared on Sunday but true to the recipe (and the sage advice of a few good Ukrainians) we let them sit overnight. Monday night we warmed the rolls up and topped them with a delicious mushroom gravy/sauce, it was very good.

Our overall cooking experience was positive, Carl's latent Ukrainian genes came out in full force. He was a master at rolling the holubtsi and prefecting the mushroom sauce. I'm obviously not Ukrainian, although I hung in there for a while, my poor poppy seed cake was sentenced to a dry, solid-state existence since I forgot to add the necessary 2 cups of milk. Oops!

Nice. I just made stuffed cabbage a la Hungary - my Great Grandmother's recipe updated with the help of Alice Waters. Our rolls are basted for hours in an herbed tomato sauce. Tasty!
Who needs cake when you have oodles of cabbage rolls! Those things are great! I've never had the Ukrainian version. Sounds delicious.
WOW...I think the translation is a little off but the food looks right on :) Hope to see you Sunday
