Ukrainian Feast, part one ...

Today marks day one of our adventure into Ukrainian cooking. With Carl's strong ties to his Ukrainian heritage, its about time we started making some of the traditional delicacies. His grandma, who the kids call Prababa, makes amazing Ukrainian food. The first time I sat down to eat the traditional Christmas dinner, my mind was blown away! Plus she always makes kutya (a yummy honey and oat dessert) just for me ... because no one else likes it.

Our foray into Ukrainian food started with pierogi (also called varenyky), filled with a heavenly potato, grilled onion and farmers cheese mixture. We served them with a side of grilled onions, some sauerkraut and sour cream. Yum.

Our pierogi (pronounced pear-roh-hay)

Little helpers!

With this kind of labor intensive cooking, we'll take any help we can get.

Staking his claim

Ta-da!

We almost forgot to take a picture, the food was great!

I also made chicken noodle soup ... not really Ukrainian but so good.

Delicious!!
