Weekend Getaway to San Francisco!

Oh yes ... a kid-free weekend in California, it was definitely a San Francisco treat (such a bad joke, but I couldn't help myself)! My marvelous parents offered to watch Roman and Ruthie while I took off like a jet setter to meet Carl, who had been in California since Monday on business. The kids had a great time (almost as much fun as their grandparents) but for once, this post isn't about the munchkins. :)

I spent Thursday evening and all day Friday with my BFF Anne and her beautiful new baby Jonah. It was just what the doctor ordered ... we had an early breakfast & walk in Berkeley, a pedicure in Oakland and then dinner with our others at fantastic tapas restaurant Tamarindo.

Anne & Jonie, such beautiful gals!
Jonah was checking me out ... not sure what to think of me.

On Saturday, Carl and I took a walking tour of all that San Francisco had to offer courtesy of a free tourist map and a good sense of direction. We started in Union Square and then made our way to Fisherman's Wharf and then through all the fun and interesting neighborhoods as we wound our way back to the hotel.
No, we didn't make any wishes but I kept an eye out for a giant piano keyboard so Carl and I could play a chop sticks duet.

Enjoying the 65 degree weather at Fisherman's Wharf

Alcatraz

On the boardwalk at the Wharf

A view from the pier up towards the downtown

Ummm ... chocolate! The caramel-filled ones are my favorite.

Such a shameless tourist on the Hyde Park Pier

Steamboat (or Tugboat) Carl

Lombard Street (the crookedest street in SF)

Taking a gelato break in North Beach

Then stopped in Chinatown for a Tsingtao, need I say more!
